Stratford is a pre-apocalyptic, pre-Olympic wasteland. In the space of about a football pitch I counted 20 cranes. There are heaps of pale brown earth everywhere. Will these be podiums? Signs everywhere say you are now leaving the athletes' village.
I’ve been pollinating my chilli plants with my little finger. It’s amazing how much pollen comes off each flower. My finger looks like it’s been dipped in those powder paints we had at primary school. The ovaries in the flowers swell a little – or is it just my imagination? And then the whole thing drops off, ovary and all. Perhaps I won't get any chillies...
